“Public Consultation on proposed Doolin Pier facilities”

Members of the public and stakeholder groups interested in the proposed development of a Masterplan and Visitor Services Building for Doolin Pier are being invited to participate in a public consultation event at Doolin Community Centre between 4.00pm and 8.00pm on Tuesday 31st May.
Clare County Council recently appointed consultants for the design of proposed shoreline facilities at the new €6m Doolin Pier where an estimated 70,000 to 90,000 passengers are carried to and from the Aran Islands by local-based ferry operators.

The proposed Visitor Services Building will replace existing temporary structures and will be part of a Masterplan proposal relating to the development of the pier area in general, vehicle routes to and from Doolin village, and parking and traffic management.
Among the functions and operations being considered within the overall plan is the sale of tickets by a number of Ferry Operators, the serving of food, and the provision of toilet facilities for patrons and staff, public waiting/viewing area, luggage holding area, tourism information, car/bike parking, waste management, harbour master office, and health and safety requirements.
The upcoming initial public consultation at Doolin Community Centre will explain the scope of the project and provide an opportunity for interested stakeholder groups and individuals to share their views. Explanatory materials will be on display along with informal opportunities to engage with members of the architect-led design team comprising Bucholz McEvoy Architects (Architects), Punch Consulting Engineers (Civil Structural Engineers), IN2 Engineering (M&E Engineers), Aecom (Quantity Surveyor), Aegis Safety Ltd (PSDP safety) and HRA Planning (Planning).
Submissions will be accepted on the day. Written submissions and observations may also be made to the Senior Executive Officer, Tourism & Community Department, Clare County Council, Áras Contae an Chláir, New Road, Ennis, Co. Clare by 4.00pm on the 3rd June 2016.
